Mazatlan.. pics to come later - I left the camera cord at home :(
Day one: took a taxi from the airport.. then i remember that we should have walked out to the street to get one and save money. oops. Oh well. the ride over was about a half hour and the scenery was cool. we went around the outside of town, so we saw a different version of what we are seeing now. We checked in to the Costa Bonita with Fidel, Linda's assistant.
We ate a late lunch down at the palapa on Costa's beach. yum. for an appetizer, guac and chips. spectacular. T ordered the shrimp fajitas and I got the chicken. Both were absolutely amazing. The chicken was with green peppers and the shrimp was with red. This is a great way to make each dish it's own unique flavor. Mazatlan supposedly has the worlds largest shrimping fleet. After lunch, we came back and chilled, unpacked and talked about plans.
In the evening, we took a taxi for setenta pesos (7 bucks) to the golden zone. We had him drop us at fiestaland; which designates the end of the GZ and the beginning of the Malecon. We wandered up the street and decided that the timing was perfect for T to catch a meeting; I went with him since I didn't feel comfortable with my surroundings as of yet. Mazatlan is more of a city type setting than a small village feel.
After the meeting, we went down to the golden zone to find a place to eat. We chose the Shrimp Factory and we were not dissapointed. Tony had the pound of steamed shrimp and I had the coconut shrimp. The waiter suggested I take a mix of the grilled and fried, since i was "trying" to be a bit healthy and had ordered the grilled. I'm always one to take a waiter's recommedation. I'm glad I did. the fried coconut shrimp there is to die for. a nice layer of crunchy goodness sitting lightly on a bed of coconut and orange sauce. yum.

day 2:
The Flota BiBi fleet picks us up at 5:45am to take us to the boats. T and I are on a boat called the Bluefin; it's a single engine 40 ft boat with 2 employees on it. they don't say much the whole trip, just leave us to enjoy the scenery and the ocean. I think I would have been just as happy if they engaged just a bit more. Asi, es la vida! so we're about 3 hours or more out and one of the reels catches. He started to hand the thing over to me and I had anxiety go "woosh" over my head. I wanted to see it done before I did it. So, T takes the "fighting chair" and reels in a 18 pound, 4'1" dorado (aka Mahi-Mahi) While the fish was hovering just under the surface of the water, it's coloration was electrifying. It honestly looked like a neon sign. Not 20 minutes later a reel from the deck up top caught. I heard the guy say "sailfish", woa! that was a sail fish allright. He handed the rod over to me in the chair and I reeled it in. It was a lot harder on my left arm than I had expected. I'll have to ask my yoga instructor if there's a fishing practice to strengthen my biceps. ha. This sailfish faught and jumped out, very exciting. He weighed 5
Ate Dinner at the Guadalajara grill. T- Cabreria filet with scalloped potatoes and a yummy sauce. this was reasonably priced for the quality of food!! yay! highly recommended!
