I have long been a proponent of the FOUR DAY WORK WEEK. I would gladly work longer hours in order to have 3 DAYS OFF every week. It seems common in businesses in other countries such as the Philippines and even in schools where studies are showing that it lowers education costs but also creates a better learning environment. And what about vacation? We work for years to accrue enough time off to actually take a vacation. People in other countries take long holidays (a friend who lives in Belgium takes the month of August as do most of his friends) or siestas or have less stringent work hours. Sign me up! It seems that historically America has a strong work ethic but most people are, as Dusti describes below, overworked and stressed out. Quality of life should factor in somewhere. I do have to give props to the Sierra Club - their employees get a week of paid vacation at the end of December. Sadly, the same does not go for the organization I work for. Boy, all this talk really makes me want to take a vacation.
