I have been trying to change my diet and exercise habits and have found that eating several small "snacky" meals keeps me from getting hungry, grumpy and tired. I have also been trying to cook more in the evenings so if it is something that can be re-heated than I make extra so that I can bring it to work. My real problem is moving away from the carbs and towards food with more protein. I love bread and pasta and cheese but I also love fresh fruits and veggies so it's really just about finding a balance. I have been reading this book and it's really informative. It basically says to stay away from refined and processed foods like refined sugar, white flour, white pasta, white bread... most white foods are not that healthy. It seems strange but think about it - cool whip? Not good. Marshmallows? Also not too good. Seriously, he is talking about much more basic foods and the answer is to buy things that are brown instead. Whole wheat flour and pasta, brown rice, unrefined sugar or a sugar substitute like turbinado. You should eat lots of vegetables and the less they are cooked the more nutritious they are. There is a great article in Scientific American with the an updated food pyramid that I hung on my refridgerator. I think it's all about educating yourself.
